You may already be in the process of making a move to the UK to further your studies, or you may just be considering it; either way, choosing to study in the UK is a great way to expand your knowledge, meet new people, and experience a new culture.

500,000 international students enrol at a UK higher education establishment each year, making it one of the world's most popular destinations to study.

UK universities are one of the leading destinations of choice for overseas students in the world, and consistently perform well in world rankings, with a strong reputation for world class research. UK higher education degrees and qualifications are recognised by employers and academics worldwide and with over 50,000 courses in 25 subject areas, there is sure to be one that suits. There are also many opportunities to pursue postgraduate study opportunities with the majority of UK universities, with some offering sponsorship for Tier 4 visas.

Tuition fees vary depending which University or course you choose, however it is worth bearing in mind that UK courses are shorter than other countries which can assist in reducing other costs, such as accommodation. You may be able to get financial help with your fees, or in some cases, a scholarship.

International students will need to apply for a visa to study in the UK, and there may be work permits and English language standard requirements. Universities advise all applicants what standard of English is required for their courses. Most course providers will ask you to demonstrate proficiency in English, or to take an approved English language test if English is not your first language. If you are an EU national looking to study in the UK, it is best to contact the University direct so that they can advise on your position post Brexit.

Living costs can vary based on where you study within the UK, with London being considerably more expensive. You will need to budget for your accommodation, with most first year students choosing to stay in halls of residence, although there are many other options available.

At Austin Homes, we regularly let properties to overseas students, and we are more than happy to advise on the process, or assist with your property search.
